Christian Education

First Congregational UCC of Oconomowoc is committed to sharing in the responsibility of educating our young people in the ways of the Lord. We are blessed with a dedicated group of experienced lay leaders who teach from a curriculum that shares our Christian traditions and offers ways for our youth to grow in their faith and love of God. We offer Sunday School classes for ages 3 through High School.

“Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God."  Luke 18:16

Sunday School

Our Sunday School is vibrant and active and a vital part the faith journey within our church. We offer Sunday school at our 10:00 a.m. worship service. Children ages 3 through high school have the opportunity to experience the first part of the service with their families in the Sanctuary. After our "Children's Message" they are invited to join their Sunday School teachers in the classrooms for faith-filled, hands-on lessons that follow along with Holy Scripture and the traditions of our faith. Classes are broken up into age-appropriate groups and taught by adult members of our church. When Communion is celebrated during the service, children join their families once again in the Sanctuary to partake in the tradition of breaking bread together.

Confirmation class is open to all youth in grade nine and above who wish to affirm for themselves the vows of baptism, and to grow their faith and understanding of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. This program offers experiences and activities to help reflect on what it means to be in a dynamic relationship with our Lord.

Our Confirmation program consists of classes, retreats, and involvement in the life of the church, including worship, fellowship, community service and mission. Parents are also an integral part of making this a meaningful and faith-filled program.

Adult Bible Study

Our faith journey offers opportunities for all of us to continue to learn and grow as we seek a closer and more intimate relationship with ourselves, with each other and with God. Our Women's Adult Bible Study is offered on a weekly basis on Wednesdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

We also hold Special Adult Studies that often coincide with periods of Lent and Advent - a time when we are challenged to open our hearts and minds to a better understanding of how to more closely follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Facilitated by our Pastor and/or lay leaders, the study programs follow books of the Bible and also offer a time for prayers and fellowship. These special study programs are held in the evenings and/or between worship services.

We want to help your child grow and develop socially, physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually in a Christian environment. Our philosophy is to provide a safe, stimulating and nurturing place for children to discover and understand their world through play with a purpose. We plan a wide range of activities that will give your child a stepping stone toward a successful future. Our prayer is that together we can use our hearts and hands to help your child enjoy their preschool experience. Click here for their website.

A safe and secure Christian learning environment

The congregation of First Congregational United Church of Christ aspires to be a God-centered fellowship. Here, all can seek a closer relationship with God in a trusting and nurturing place. As part of this mission, one of our goals is to provide a safe environment for the children and youth who are entrusted to our care as they participate in our programs and use our facilities. We want our congregation to be a haven, free of sexual misconduct or harassment. To help reach these goals, we have adopted a Safe Sanctuary Covenant that includes policies, procedures and educational programs to ensure a trusting environment for our church members and visitors of all ages.
